The green gentian is one my favorite flowers that I see when I am hiking in the mountains in Montana. It is very special because it only blooms once before it dies, and it takes about 20 years to produce a flower.

David and I transplanted one of these from the woods near our home, and we waited for 20 years for it to bloom! For 19 years it produced greenery but then wilted and disintegrated. Finally, it produced a blossom!
